Jerry is midi crazy on space but at 8 min he suddenly starts playing either "Handsome Cabin Boy" or "Two Soldiers". same tune basically. any way thats a note worthy intro to "Morning Dew"!

It's okay. But in addition to the goofs noted in other reviews, they screwed up the vocals in UJB.

On the other hand, the space contains a jam on an old whaling chantey. If that's not amusing, I don't know what is.

No mention of the opening Half-Step?
This is an good sounding recording, and a prime version of a favorite song o' mine. Some of the best couplets in all of American literature, IMHO :)>> "IF ALL YOU GOT TO LIVE FOR IS WHAT YOU LEFT BEHIND, GET YOURSELF A POWDER CHARGE AND SEAL THAT SILVER MINE!" / "I LOST MY BOOTS IN TRANSIT, BABE, A PILE OF SMOKIN' LEATHER; NAILED A RETREAD TO MY FEET AND PRAYED FOR BETTER WEATHER" That's right. This song has gotten me through many rough patches. Beautiful!

Subject: My Review
Played through a Yamaha receiver w/direct source and two Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers. 1st set is a mess basically. Set list is fine but execution is bad. This is ironic because the band feels like they want to be good this night. I think they might feel a little embarrassed actually. Jerry bailing out Weir during "Masterpeice" is hilarious, as Weir forgets an entire verse. It's not all bad. MHS, TLEO, and LIG are all decent. Set 2 here is actually as good as you're going to find this year. Solid IKO, and a great Playin w/ nice improvisational jamming afore and aft. Crazy Fingers is nice w/ a solid Jer solo. The Dead were kind of effects crazy this year and the result is a really creepy space that actually sounds like a B horror movie. It acually creeped me out. The Morning Dew is serious and ripping with Jerry pulling out all the stops, emotional because of Brent's passing this year. These shows are interesting because the band is in as big a transition as they ever were after that. Vince doesn't quite do it for me here. However, in retrospect, this might be one the best concerts I ever caught of the Dead. My first was 4/8/85 at the same venue. That show had its virtues and I always assumed it was way better. But actually this is some serious Dead here. The tempo of the concert is slower and more deliberate here and I actually think this blows that earlier concert away. Great sound quality throughout. What makes this poignant is that this may be the beginning of the end for this band. Maybe some of the last decent playing of their career. Great 2nd set.

This show is pretty dang good. The Althea>Let it grow is an all time favorite, for both versions true stand outs. Bobby's guitar effects and phil's deep bass makes these versions quite special

Subject: Kudos to Mr. Miller....
Another fine piece by C. M. . Love the Space->Two Soldiers Jam->Morning Dew,IMHO best show of the '90 Philly run, though it did ugly in the lot after this show....Alot of OD'ers, one guy had to be taken out by ambulance after failing to revive when a huge cooler of ice and water was dumped down his pants...That's when the heat started booting us out,but hey that's Philly for ya,always had an edge to it....
